Sound emitted from speakers can be broadly divided into two types:
“direct sound”, which reaches the listening position directly, and “reflected sound”, which arrives after bouncing off room surfaces such as walls and ceilings.
There are various types of acoustic panels designed for installation on walls, corners, and other areas within a room. When performing room tuning using side wall treatments, it is particularly effective to address the first reflection points of sound.
First Reflection Point Calculator
By entering the following three distances, you can easily identify the first reflection points:
- Distance between the speaker and the side wall
- Distance between the listening position and the side wall
- Distance between the listening position and the center point between the speakers
This method can also be applied to ceiling reflections.
For calculation:
- Enter the distance from the height of the tweeter or midrange driver to the ceiling as A.
- Enter the distance from the listener’s ear position to the ceiling as B.
Placement at the first reflection points should be used as a general guideline.
The optimal position may vary depending on room size, layout, and acoustic conditions.
We recommend using the calculated reflection points as a reference when determining the most effective placement for your acoustic panels.
